Outreach and Lectures

Our staff are often asked to take part in local lectures, seminars and heritage events. Below you’ll find a list of some of the outreach work we have undertaken. Earthsound Archaeological Geophysics have a very active public profile and contribute to a variety of media outlets, publications, lectures and community archaeology projects as well as academic research.

We work all over Ireland. If you would like one of our staff to talk with your local group or organisation, or need help in organising a heritage event then please contact us.

Annacarty Remembers Commemoration Ceremony 2016: Display of geophysical equipment as well as  public talk on the use of archaeology in conjunction with Wolfhound Archaeology.

Lea Castle Project Community Open Day 2016: A series of demonstrations of geophysical equipment and a description of the site.

Laois Heritage and Garden Guide Narration 2016: Earthsound provided Irish translation and narration services for Abarta Heritage as part of the Laois Heritage and Garden Trail.

Tintern Abbey Gardens 2016: Display and explanation of geophysical equipment conjunction with Stafford McLoughlin Archaeology.

Woodstock Castle, Athy 2015: Athy Heritage Centre-Museum produced documentary involving a talk by Earthsound to a group of local National School students on archaeology and the history of Woodstock Castle. Presented by Darren Regan and Cian Hogan

Kilmovee Community Centre 2015: Archaeology of Kilcashel. Lecture for the Kilmovee Winter Lecture Series. Presented by Dr James Bonsall.

IT Sligo 2015: There’s always a Secret Tunnel: Folklore, Fact and Fiction in the Kilcashel Landscape Project. Lecture for the Stones and Bones Academic Research Conference. Presented by Dr James Bonsall.

Kinsale Heritage Group 2014: Demonstration and explanation of geophysical surveys. Presented by Heather Gimson and Darren Regan.

Mayfield Community Building, Claremorris 2014: Mayfield Lake, Wetlands and its Archaeological Heritage. Talk and guided walk, presented by Dr James Bonsall.

Athy Heritage Centre 2013: Town Walls and Castles – Recent Geophysical Discoveries in Athy. Presented by Heather Gimson.

National School Outreach on the Work of an Archaeologist 2013: Earthsound’s Darren Regan gave a series of three talks to S.N Ceathrú Thaidhg, S.N. na hEachléim and S.N. Thuar Mhic Éadaigh about the field of archaeology and the archaeological heritage of County Mayo.

Rathnadrinna Research Project 2009-2010 & 2012-2014: Demonstration and explanation of geophysical surveys as well as teaching geophysical and excavation techniques.

IAI CPD 2012: An Introduction to Archaeological Geophysics. One day CPD course given to members of the Institute of Archaeologists of Ireland. Presented by James Bonsall & Heather Gimson.

Cork Heritage Day 2012: Demonstration and explanation of geophysical surveys at The Peace Park, Cork City. Presented by Heather Gimson.
