Waterborne Surveys

We offer shallow-water waterborne surveys that provide high resolution mapping. Surveys are undertaken on a shallow-draught vessel by towing instrumentation, transducers mounted on the vessel hull and/or a separate instrument platform. Multiple datasets can be recorded along survey traverses guided by a helmsman's display driven by a Global Positioning System (GPS).

Waterborne surveys can be carried out inshore or in rivers and lakes. The surveys can be used for environmental, engineering and archaeological purposes and allow for the detection and mapping of objects and features lying on or in the sea, river or lake bed.

A sidescan sonar is used to map features lying on the sea, river or lake bed. Sub-bottom sediments can be mapped using a sub-bottom profiler.

A magnetometer can also be used where the detection of ferrous metal is required. This can be significant in archaeological investigations as well as wreck detection and can lead to the mapping of ferrous debris over a wide area.

Where the morphology of the sea, river or lake bottom is required a single or multi-beam echo sounder can be deployed to produce high resolution bathymetry maps and sections.

Survey requirements

If you would like to contact us to discuss your requirements so that we can develop a project plan and quotation, it would be useful to have the following information:

  • Purpose of survey
  • Type of survey area - inshore, river or lake
  • Size of survey area
  • Possible minimum and maximum water depths
