Tipperary<span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Year:<\/strong> 2016<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Client:<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/wolfhoundarchaeology.ie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wolfhound Archaeology<\/a>, funded by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tipperarycoco.ie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tipperary County Council<\/a>, Ireland 1916-2016 and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.heritagecouncil.ie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Heritage Council<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Aim:<\/strong>\u00a0In June 2016, we carried out extensive <a href=\"http:\/\/www.earthsound.ie\/index.php\/magnetometry\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Magnetometer<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.earthsound.ie\/index.php\/electromagnetic-induction-emi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Electromagnetic Induction<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.earthsound.ie\/index.php\/ground-penetrating-radar-gpr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ground Penetrating Radar<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.earthsound.ie\/index.php\/earth-resistance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Earth Resistance<\/a> Surveys\u00a0and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.earthsound.ie\/index.php\/metal-detection\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Metal Detection<\/a> surveys at the RIC Barracks in Annacarty as part of a large\u00a0commemoration event which was also filmed by\u00a0RTE&#8217;s new television series <em>John Creedon&#8217;s Epic East. <\/em>The film crew were very interested in the geophysical survey and obtained some great drone and GoPro footage of our work.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Community Engagement:<\/strong>\u00a01 volunteer worked with Earthsound geophysicists for 1 day (volunteer labour contribution: \u20ac164). The survey was filmed for RTE television and culminated in a large commemoration on the last day of survey, attended by more than 220 people, with Earthsound geophysicists on hand to explain the survey, it&#8217;s purpose and findings.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Outcomes:<\/strong> The 2016 geophysical survey culminated in a large commemoration ceremony (see below) attended by local school children and adults, the Army and many local politicians. The survey results will be integrated in to a management plan for the site.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe class='youtube-player' width='1600' height='900' src='https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/5rZFM6TY0DU?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-GB&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent' allowfullscreen='true' style='border:0;' sandbox='allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation'><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The geophysical surveys were carried out as part of a research project managed by <a href=\"http:\/\/wolfhoundarchaeology.ie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wolfhound Archaeology<\/a>, funded by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tipperarycoco.ie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tipperary County Council<\/a>, Ireland 1916-2016 and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.heritagecouncil.ie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Heritage Council<\/a>. The research formed part of the Annacarty Remembers event, which commemorated the events of the War of Independence and Civil War.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_621\" style=\"width: 310px\" was originally constructed as an RIC barracks in the early 19th Century, saw considerable action during the conflicts prior to the foundation of the Irish state.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the spring of 1922, the truce had been signed and the barracks handed over to the volunteers.\u00a0The children of Annacarty N.S. were marched up the hill to the barracks by the principal, Mr. Slattery and sang Amhr\u00e1n na bhFiann for the volunteers as they raised the tri-colour.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_620\" style=\"width: 970px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a id=\"caption-attachment-620\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The procession recreated the original event in 1922.<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On June 10th 2016, the event was recreated by more than 220 school children, local residents and visitors.\u00a0The building bears the scars of these battles but is otherwise virtually untouched since it was burnt out after a short but violent Heather Gimson and supported by Dr James Bonsall, Darren Regan and Cian Hogan, who used various geophysical instruments to map additional structures around the barracks and carried out a detailed
