Digital Graphics
Earthsound offer a range of digital graphics
services to facilitate and aid archaeological
investigations. These can be tailor made to meet
your individual requirements. Our digitizing and
draughting suite enable old maps, paper plans,
sections and illustrations to be transferred into
digital format.
Once transferred into digital format this
information can be geo-referenced and combined with
Global Positioning System (GPS) and topographical
surveys, geophysical results and other site
analyses, allowing comprehensive digital data to be
preserved, stored and used for future studies.
Archaeological trench and section
digitizing
Our digitizing suite enables the
transference of a range of archaeological
material into digital format. We can cater
for excavations and test trench plans and
sections, field photos, elevation
diagrams, illustrations, sketches and
conjectural plans. These can be placed
into Computer Aided Design (CAD), ideal
for contractual, technical and published
reports. Allowing a comprehensive digital
archive to be built up of excavation and
investigation information.

The digital information created can
also be placed in national grid
co-ordinates (if they are provided) that
allows the information to be integrated
with other geo-spatial surveys such as
topographical, geophysical and landscape
surveys.

Map digitizing
Maps of all ages can be significant to
archaeological research and are often not
held in digital format. The digitizing of
these documents can enable landscape
studies and regression analysis to be
undertaken within study areas. With the
advances in computer technology it is
possible to digitally overlay different
aged maps, map field boundary changes or
plot finds / monument distributions.
Many digitized maps can also be
geo-referenced allowing easy overlaying,
storage and reuse. These geo-referenced
files can then be integrated with other
landscape studies such as topographical or
geophysical data, geological and
ecological surveys and proposed
development plans.

Photogrammetry
Photogrammetry is the science of extracting
measurements from photographs. Using digital,
scanned or archive photographs we can create
accurate 3D, textured models of artefacts,
archaeological features or structures. The models
can be exported for use in CAD, animations,
rendering or web display.
